Match 3D (2023)

My Role:

Level Designer

In Match 3D, my core responsibilities were designing challenge levels for the game’s liveops events.

I created 49 challenge levels for the game’s seven new ‘Field Day’ live events. Each event had 7 distinct levels of increasing difficulty and a unique theme. Since the events cycle throughout the year, each event had a topical overarching theme for the season it was available. For example, in December, the event would have levels with festive Christmas and New Year’s Eve-themed objects. April would have Easter-themed levels, and October fall and Halloween-themed levels. To ensure each level within an event didn’t feel too similar, I mixed up the objects while still keeping them tied together. For example, October may have a level with trees, leaves, fruit, and hot drinks, but another themed around classic Halloween monsters or levels filled with candy.

I also worked with a 3d artist to create new game objects and recolor variants of existing ones in order to modernize the core game levels in an attempt to better compete with newer match titles. As part of this task, I researched the most successful match games on the market to better understand what objects feel more appealing.
