Coin Dozer: Carnival Prizes (2020)

Game Circus

My Role:

Systems Designer

The Seasonal Pass feature for Coin Dozer was the first feature I designed and implemented for Game Circus. I designed this while I still worked in the QA department as at the time the event and seasonal pass strategies had started taking root in both mobile, pc and console games. I proposed the idea to Coin Dozer’s lead designer, and he challenged me to make the feature and have him review it.

I built upon the existing seasonal events that Coin Dozer already had by adding a second reward tier. This required a redesign of the current event reward UI. The reward screen also needed the pass purchase button, and a way to communicate which reward tier belonged to the free pass and the seasonal pass. Collaborating with the UI artist we created a clear separation of value between the free and premium reward track. To incentivize the purchase, players were offered the pass in multiple locations; When they launched the game the first time after the event started, a promo popup appeared, as an occasional promotion on subsequent game launches, and displayed at the bottom of the event reward screen.

With this new feature, the existing 13 seasonal events had to have their reward tracks rebalanced to match the now premium and free tracks. I was tasked with adjusting the rewards, and I did this using a spreadsheet calculator which ensured that the rewards we offered players with the premium track did not exceed or go below the intended value.
