Dead by Daylight UI/UX Overhaul

Made using Figma

With this project, I had two goals in mind:

  1. Refresh and sharpen my knowledge of Figma and UI/UX design

  2. Take a game I play regularly and find a prominent and important feature to improve on.

With 276 perks (149 for Survivors and 127 for Killers) in the game, and every major release introducing 3-6 new perks, Dead by Daylight sorely needs a UI/UX update. The game’s QOL features, such as the search bar, are good for players who know what they are looking for, but it’s not as useful for new players who may not be familiar with the name of a specific perk, game mechanic, or which character a perk belongs to. I designed a UI that offers easy-to-understand perk categories that let players pick perks from a list based on what they are looking for. Keep in mind that this is more of a mockup than a final product.

I wanted to find ways to create a more beginner-friendly interface aimed to help players with ~0-250 hrs in the game who are still learning and unlocking content, or players returning from a long hiatus, only to find that existing perks have had reworks, or brand new perks introduced.

In the future, I can even see this feature expanding to show beginner-friendly or killer-specific recommended build sets, helping new players understand the synergy, perks, or killer powers (although you’d want to think carefully about promoting meta builds to avoid muddling your organic data analytics).
